Week One
- Introduction to EFL methodology
- Two Teaching Practice (TP) lessons to EFL students
- Learn the basics of Peer Critiques
- Learn how to constructively evaluate your own lessons
- Learn how to implement communicative activities in the classroom
- Learn basic classroom management techniques
- Begin a process of langauge analysis
- Learn techniques for teaching vocabulary
- Learn the basics of lesson planning and various structures
- Familiarize yourself with EFL course books
- Use other practical, hands-on EFL teaching resources
- Experience EFL methodology in action during foreign language lessons
- Begin work on a one-to-one 'needs analysis' teaching project
Week Two
- Continue Teaching Practice lessons with an added emphasis on teacher language and error correction
- Examine and try different communicative approaches to teaching grammar
- Learn how to teach lessons that focus on reading and writing
- Continue developing your language analysis skills
- Continue work on your one-to-one teaching project
- Develop skills for creating original and effective teaching materials
- Become able to understand modern language teaching from a learner's perspective
- Become able to contrast English with a foreign language
Week Three
- Continue Teaching Practice lessons with and added emphasis on achieving lesson aims and adapting lessons to different styles, levels and classes
- Further develop your reflective teaching abilities
- Complete a mid-course self-evaluation and get feedback on your one-to-one teaching project from your trainer
- Learn how to teach lessons focused on listening skills
- Learn the basics of English phonology and practical ways of teaching it
- Continue to develop language analysis skills
- Continue one-to-one teaching project
- Continue to develop classroom management techniques
- Learn the basics of testing in TEFL
- Familiarize yourself with the Common European Framework for Languages
Week Four
- Continue Teaching Practice lessons with an emphasis on teacher and learner autonomy
- Further develop reflective teaching abilities
- Complete your one-to-one teaching project
- Focus on professional development possibilities and awareness
- Learn specific skills for teaching Business English
- Learn specific skills for teaching Young Learners
- Continue language analysis skills
- Complete an independent phonology project
- Complete a course evaluation to help guide the future of the course
- Experience e-learning in TEFL
On successful completion of the course you will receive:
- Internationally recognized* ITC TEFL International TESOL Certificate accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic
- Supplemental teaching packs specifically designed to assist you in developing lessons for both Young Learners and Business English
- A "Getting Started Teaching" pack which you help design under the guidance of your trainers. This will include valuable, personalised materials such as visual aids, hand-outs and sample lesson plans. Graduates find this to be a useful starter tool once they begin teaching.
* An ITC TEFL International TESOL Certificate is designed to train and prepare you for teaching English in a non-English speaking environment. A TEFL Certificate has become a hiring standard for employers when filling teaching positions. It is possible to teach in English speaking countries but further requirements or credentials may be necessary.
